This EOSC Thematic Node originated from the Blue-Cloud initiative, which de-facto piloted a marine thematic node to advance high-quality marine science
Connecting Ocean
Data to Discovery
The EOSC Node European Digital Twin Ocean is the marine thematic node within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), supporting high-quality collaborative marine science and contributing to the European Digital Twin Ocean programme and its implementing facilities.
The EOSC Node European Digital Twin Ocean ensures that new research products generated within its VRE feed into key EU data services, such as EMODnet, Copernicus Marine Service and EDITO, contributing to the co-development and growth of the European Digital Twin Ocean. It supports the existing marine knowledge infrastructure, allowing data to flow seamlessly from European Research Infrastructures to end-users through established aggregators (e.g., the EDITO Catalogue), without imposing access restrictions.
FLORENCE — EOSC-Marine, three Horizon Europe projects and the EOSC Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 15 October 2026 to strengthen collaboration and advance the EOSC Federation by aligning efforts to develop its federating capabilities and architecture.
EOSC Marine kicks off in Pisa and sets the EOSC Node European Digital Twin Ocean in operation.
The EOSC Node European Digital Twin Ocean is moving into production, making its services available through the EOSC Federation and opening new opportunities for cross-border and cross-disciplinary research.
The EOSC Node European Digital Twin Ocean ensures its professional operation through a Service Management System aligned with FitSM standards and adheres to EOSC cybersecurity policies and best practices. The Node actively participates in the EOSC Federation by integrating with and contributing to the EOSC Federating Capabilities.
The scientific value of the EOSC Node| European Digital Twin Ocean is delivered through a comprehensive portfolio of Node Resources that combine collaborative environments, scientific applications such as the VREs and computing services.
The EOSC Node|European Digital Twin Ocean enables researchers to discover and access distributed marine resources through interoperable catalogues and FAIR data services, such as Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) and FAIR Digital Object publication.
